Part of what makes the Butch Cassidy race unique is the course. Running along the Virgin River, over the Rockville Bridge, and finishing in Grafton, the course is scenic, historic, challenging, and overall just plain awesome.
Unfortunately, due to factors beyond our control associated with road construction on State Route 9 in Springdale, we will be unable to run the traditional Butch Cassidy course this year. We apologize for this inconvenience and disappointment.
The Butch Cassidy Race committee has worked hard to put together an alternate route for this year’s race. While the alternate course does not have the same charm as the traditional course, it has some pretty cool features we think you will enjoy.
Both the 10K and the 5K will be loop courses, beginning and finishing at the Canyon Community Center in Springdale. The 10K will be a two-mile loop on paved road, single track trail, and gravel multi-use paths. Runners will complete the loop three times. The 5K will be a one-mile loop on paved roads and gravel multi-use paths. Runners will complete the loop three times.
What’s a Loop Course?
Loop courses are awesome. If you have never done a loop course you will really enjoy this new experience. If you have done a loop course you know how much fun they can be. Loop courses allow more interaction with runners of varying paces, are more spectator friendly, and allow better support from race staff.
We have designed the loop courses to offer a variety of diverse and interesting running terrain, showcase the incredible scenery of Zion Canyon, and allow the maximum amount of spectator involvement. We think you will enjoy the loop courses this year - keeping in mind next year we will return to Grafton.
No shortage of Fun!
The race will feature all the same events and festivities as in past years: great live music, premium racer swag, awesome finish line food, great raffle prizes, and fun runner competitions. We hope you join us for this year’s race. We are excited to offer a new experience and look forward to returning to the traditional course next year.
